NYUPS announced today that the next meeting is held on Aug. 9, 2007 from 6:30 in the evening at the Rock Theatre. The detailed information is below.

According to some of my friends participating NYUPS meetings actively, the meetings have been very informative yet fun. Another congratulation to Jason Heller, the President of NYUPS and the guest speaker of the evening at 8/9 meeting.

All meetings by NYUPS must be R.S.V.P.ed every time.

We're pleased to announce a cool break from the hot NY summer - come enjoy "A Mid-Summer Break With NYUPS"!

The next NYUPS event will be held on August 9th at 6:30pm. It will be another exciting event, complete with an educational session, a short film and an interactive image review and discussion.

Planning Your Shot, and Shooting to Win: by Jason Heller, underwater photographer, founder of DivePhotoGuide.com and NYUPS President.

Saving the Dragon: a film by by Rick Morris, an environmental documentary film maker and fellow NYUPS member.

Image Submission and Reviews: Upload a couple of your best shots and we will randomly select a bunch of images to collectively review and discuss.

Admission to our August event, "A Mid-Summer Break With NYUPS" is free, however, those who have not yet paid the pro-rated 2007 dues of $29, we ask you to please contact David Borus (membership@nyups.org) to make arrangements to do so before the September meeting. As of September, non-members will have to pay a small admission fee for each meeting/event.

Please RSVP for the event with your full name and city. Space is somewhat limited for our growing group, so please RSVP sooner than later to ensure your spot.

SHIPWRECK! Pirates & Treasure - Exhibition

Have a plan to be around Tampa, FL this summer? Well, you might just catch this.

Odyssey Marine Exploration recently announced the SHIPWRECK! Pirates & Treasure, an interactive Shipwreck and Treasure exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industory (MOSI) in Tampa, FL from June 22, 2007.

This exhibition may be good for kids - their interactive exhibition may educate little ones how a deep-ocean exploration works and histories of shipwrecks. The exhibition also includes the history of SS Republic, the greatest shipwreck treasure of the Civil War period.

So, if you are a diver and got kids, why not stop here and enjoy everything altogether??

I received an e-mail from Wrecksploration with an announcement of their first meeting that will be held at Nassau University Medical Center on May 3rd. Detail is below.

I am pleased to announce that Wrecksploration will be holding its first Members Meeting on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at 7:30 PM at the Nassau University Medical Center. This meeting is open to anyone, members and non-members. This is your chance to find out what we are all about. We will be discussing our plans for the upcoming year and previewing some of the projects that will be starting soon.

To kick off our activities, a special presentation will be delivered by our guest speaker for the evening, Captain Dan Berg. Captain Berg is one of the most prolific shipwreck explorers in our area, and it is a true privilege to have him join us. Find out what shipwreck exploration is really all about, from someone who has been doing it for more than twenty years. If you have ever attended a presentation by Dan Berg, you know this is opportunity not to be missed. If you have not, here is your chance!

Underwater Photography Exhibition

The Dryden Gallery in Providence, Rhode Island is hosting its annual underwater photography exhibit entitled 'New Englanders Underwater' from March 31 through May 19. The Gallery states that this is the LARGEST exhibition of underwater photography in New England. There is an opening reception, free of charge, on Saturday evening (6-9 PM) March 31st at the Dryden Gallery.

Dive into Earth Day - Are you ready?

Westchester Medical Center Dive Safety Weekend - 4/14 & 4/15

LIDA is hosting Dive Safety Weekend at Westchester Medical Center over the weekend of 4/14/2007 -4/15/2007. Details are below:

LIDA is pleased to inform you a Safety Seminar to be held April 14 and 15 at the Westchester Medical Center Children's Hospital. Saturday's program is FREE with a minimal donation requested to help defray costs of lunch. Sunday's program will include a course on Field Neurological Examinations, a full day presentation intended for EMS professional and first responders to be taught by the best, Andrea Zafers of Lifeguard Systems. In addition, renowned technical guru Bernie Chowdhury, author of "The Last Dive" and instructor and BTS director Ed Smith of LST will teach a 1/2 day DAN Certification course on Basic Life Support and related topics, intended for all. More detail below and to follow. We highly recommend you to attend this outstanding program.

Capt. Lada Simek Evening Successful!

Today, our first special guest speaking evening of the year was held at Garden City Center, Garden City, NY. Our guest speaker of the evening, Capt. Lada Simek, Senior Director of Beneath the Sea, has presented excellent resources on Equipment, Oceanography, Diving Physics, Marine Biology, and Underwater Photography.

There were approximately 60 groupers attended to this event.

After-Event get-together was held @ Laguna Grille in Westbury. Ate, Drunk, and be Merry!
